3 years being at university might sound like a long time, but it definitely flies by! There is so much to see in Southampton that you don’t want to miss. Here are our top recommendations while being on a budget!
1. See the old town walls
It is completely free to take yourself on a tour of the history of Southampton. To walk the whole route of the old town walls, it takes around 55 minutes and covers 4 kilometres. The trail is marked so you won’t get lost! You can also follow the route on All Trails, just to be sure. Obviously this one is open 24 hours so you could go any time… maybe even turn it into a pub crawl!

2. Visit the Southampton City Art Gallery
The City Art Gallery has a huge variety of exhibitions, including local artists. This is also completely free to visit, perfect for a rainy day!

3. Take a trip to Winchester
The train to Winchester from Southampton Central usually isn’t anymore than £9 for an open return and only takes around 20 minutes! Winchester
4. Visit the John Hansard Art Gallery
Another completely free art gallery, as part of the University of Southampton. It’s a contemporary gallery with lots of exhibitions throughout the year. Another great rainy day activity to spark your curiosity and get inspired! It is open 11am to 5pm on Tuesdays to Saturdays.

5. Learn about the Titanic at the SeaCity Museum
On the 10th of April 1912, the RMS Titanic set sail from our very own Southampton docks. The SeaCity Museum showcases the history of the Titanic, as well as other famous maritime history. It is open everyday from 10am to 5pm, with tickets around £10!
