The Polygon is a district for everyone, with a myriad of options available; the nightlife, eateries and transport links make this the best place to live as a student. It is situated close to the centre of town, making everything you’d need a walking distance away! The Polygon student accommodation houses students from both the University of Southampton as well as Solent University, ensuring that this is not just the place to go out but also a hub to meet others and make new friends. And even though it houses thousands of students, it remains a safe location in Southampton!
Coming from Birmingham, I had worried that Southampton would not quite match the fun and lively bustle I had back at home. Altogether, the premise of university (primarily my housing situation) was very daunting. However, living in the Polygon made the whole situation perfect. I have access to just as many bars, exciting locations and restaurants as I did before (if not more!) for an affordable price in an amazing home.
“The nightlife, eateries and transport links make this the best place to live as a student!”
Unilink bus routes outline the Polygon so no matter if you are at the Highfield Campus, Boldrewood Campus or the National Oceanography Centre, this is a place where you can travel from at ease. I am an Oceanography student, with lectures at both the Highfield Campus as well as the National Oceanography Centre and get to university with ease each day. Occasionally, I have lectures at the Sir James Matthews building, meaning I can have a well-deserved lie in knowing I live just a 5-minute walk away!
However, travel is not limited to just university, with the New Forest National Park, Bournemouth Beach and many more locations to explore right at your doorstep. My first year of university comprised of me exploring Hampshire and its surroundings (primarily by train). Living in the Polygon enabled me to travel just about anywhere to take a break from city life whenever needed (and it still does!)
“It’s impossible to get bored when living in the Polygon.”
For those who wish to stay in the city more often, the Polygon is unmatched for its options for city-dwellers too. From classics such as Wetherspoons (Giddy Bridge) and cocktail bars, Bedford place is the best place to go relax with your friends, housemates or even by yourself for fun nights out. I love the ability to walk up the road and each night have the choices of many bars, restaurants and takeaways fulfilling anything I want. The lazier days allow me to visit cute cafes and order food to go, with the busier days having unlimited options for drinks and food to unwind. It’s impossible to get bored when living in the Polygon.
